Erasmus+ KA1

International Credit Mobility (ICM) Action of Erasmus+ Programme provides opportunities for STUDENTS as well as STAFF of higher education institutions to undertake a learning and/or professional experience in another country. A Higher Education Institution (HEI) located in Armenia, which is a Partner Country, can send its students or staff to a Programme Country HEI, and vice versa. Programme Countries are 28 Member States of the European Union (EU) and 5 Non-EU Programme Countries (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey).

International Credit Mobility (ICM) for Staff

Linnaeus-Palme

The Linnaeus-Palme exchange program aims to promote long-term mutual collaboration between universities in Sweden and in developing countries, which will, in turn, enhance the quality of education as more perspectives and new knowledge are added or replaced. The ultimate aim of Linnaeus-Palme is to raise the quality of higher education by integrating global perspectives in learning. The program is administered by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) and funded by Sida.

Linnaeus-Palme provides teachers and students in first- and second-cycle courses and programs opportunities for exchange experiences. Students who would like to participate in the Linnaeus-Palme program should turn to their department, as the departments select which students may go on an exchange.

The two parts of the programme

As the name suggests, the program consists of two parts – Linnaeus and Palme. The first part, Linnaeus, represents Swedish teachers and students while Palme stands for teachers and students in the partner countries.

Possible activities

The program includes:

  • student exchanges
  • teacher exchanges (incl. language studies)
  • Visa trips
  • evaluation trips

Students participating in exchanges must be enrolled at undergraduate or graduate level at one of the participating departments.

Funding

The programme is a complement to other international collaborations and exchange programmes at the university and does not provide comprehensive funding. Self-financing is required from participating institutions, for example, for the teachers’ payroll costs, but also for indirect costs. Funds are awarded in the form of flat-rate.

Professional Development Grants

AUA Professional Development Grants are designed to provide individual faculty and staff members with funding to carry out projects in the categories of instructional or professional development. Projects are typically undertaken during the academic year and may be completed during the summer.

The number of grants awarded is determined by the fiscal year budget allocation. When appropriate, applicants may be asked to accept reduced funding for their projects. New initiatives are favored as opposed to ongoing or continuing projects, and small grants are favored so that a larger number of faculty/staff members can be involved.

Funds may be used for materials, services (including undergraduate and graduate assistants), and travel and/or publication expenses directly related to the project. Miscellaneous office supplies and stipends for faculty/staff generally are not supported. All expenditures must be made in accordance with AUA policies (policies.aua.am) and University budget procedures and must meet University deadlines for encumbrance and payment within the fiscal year of the grant. Applicants are encouraged to use multiple sources of funding for their projects.

For Conference Presentation Grants, awards help to defray the costs of presenting at a national or international professional conference. Funding is for applicants who will present at a conference in the same academic year. Applications for funding for conferences occurring June through August will be submitted along with spring semester applications. Funds may be used to defray presentation costs including: a) conference registration fee, b) travel expenses, c) lodging and d) food (see Conference Presentation Grant Application Form). Again, stipends for faculty/staff and miscellaneous office supplies are not supported by this grant.

Eligibility

All full-time faculty/staff with an employment contract and at least one year of working experience at AUA are eligible to apply for project and conference presentation grants.

Application procedures

A call for applications is sent to all faculty/staff by the Office
of Human Resources during the first week in August for fall semester funding and January for spring and summer semester funding. The application deadlines are August 25 and January 25 respectively. The original and electronic copies of the application must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources and [email protected].  Please note that projects involving the use of humans as participants in research must be approved by the AUA Institutional Review Board before the proposal is submitted. See Research Ethics and IRB policy at policies.aua.am.

The application includes the following elements:

  • Specification of category (instructional development or professional development)
  • Title
  • Statement of objectives
  • Brief description of activities with timeline
  • Statement of impact on applicant’s professional development
  • Statement of benefit to AUA
  • Itemized budget
  • For a conference presentation grant, documentation of presentation acceptance (a copy of the acceptance letter and/or commitment to have the paper published in the proceedings)
  • For a publication grant, documentation of acceptance of manuscript for publication

In the event that residual funds are available, an additional call for applications may be made later in the spring semester. Applicants are notified of the committee’s decision within a few weeks after the application deadline.

Selection procedures and criteria

A committee comprised of faculty members and staff members will be appointed by the Provost and Assistant VP of Operations. The committee reviews applications and selects proposals for grant funding. Committee members who have submitted applications may not participate in the selection process. When necessary and to achieve a sufficient number of evaluators and/or to provide expertise, the committee may appoint additional faculty/staff members to be involved in the review and selection process. Criteria for selection include:

  • Potential for impact on applicant’s professional development
  • Benefit to AUA
  • Clarity of proposal
  • Appropriateness of budget for project objectives
  • Performance on previous professional development grants
  • Time elapsed since last professional development grant
  • Relationship of grant outcomes to university/program/unit mission, strategic goals and objectives
  • Potential for generating a grant proposal for external funding

Generally, if proposals are of comparable quality, preference is given to applicants who have not had recent professional development grants.

Budget procedures

AUA accounting procedures and forms must be used for all expenditures. Grantees will be given specific information regarding procedures for using funds.

Project report

Upon completion of the project, a final report must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources and [email protected]. The final report should include a summary of project activities outlining the achievement of objectives, contribution to the professional development of the faculty/staff member, and benefit to AUA. Faculty/staff members are not eligible for subsequent faculty development funds if they fail to submit a final report. Final reports are kept on file, along with the original proposal, in the Office of Human Resources. Grantees may be asked to present a summary of the project to the University community upon completion.
